Two Good Book Reviews

I love getting book reviews especially the good ones. These two did put a smile on my face because the reception on the other end was a positive one and it was nice to see that all the hard work is bringing in rewards not of the monetary kind but ones that help to boost the spirit as far as the writing part goes. I picked up this book to see if it would be a good addition to my reading library in my classroom. It is a cute story that follows a miniature greyhound named Honey (I might have a personal bias as I love greyhounds) and her friend Hubie the frog as they embark on an adventure beyond the safety of their garden. It’s filled with fun characters such as talking animals, fairies, and magical creatures, all set in a whimsical world that will appeal to young readers.

From an educator’s perspective, this book offers many opportunities for class discussion, including themes of courage, loyalty, and kindness. The characters face challenges that require problem-solving and cooperation, and the story demonstrates the importance of caring for others. Overall, this book would make a delightful addition to a child’s library.

This book completely melted my heart! The Excellent Adventures of Honey and Hubie is such a delightful story — full of whimsy, lovable characters, and the kind of excitement that makes you feel like a kid again. Honey, the curious little Italian greyhound, and Hubie, the colorful adventurer frog, make the sweetest duo. Their journey beyond the garden fence is filled with magical creatures, new friendships, and the most adorable lessons about bravery and loyalty.

What I loved most is the strong message of friendship woven into every page — how real friends stand up for each other, learn new things together, and stick by one another even when things get scary. A Teacher’s Perspective

As a teacher who reads to his class, I’m always looking for stories that capture attention, hold imagination, and open the door to meaningful discussion. The Excellent Adventures of Honey and Hubie did all three. The dedication alone – “May you never lose your sense of fantasy because it is what dreams are made of” – sets the stage for what this book does best: keeping that spark of imagination alive.

My students were immediately drawn to Honey, the miniature greyhound, and her unlikely friend Hubie, the bold green frog. Together they explore a world that’s whimsical but surprisingly relatable. The fairies, Moppets, and talking woodland creatures kept the class giggling, but what stayed with them was Honey’s courage – especially when she faced her fears to cross the pond or help another creature in need.

From an educator’s perspective, the pacing and structure work beautifully for group reading. There are natural pause points, making it easy to discuss what’s happening and predict what might come next. The descriptive writing creates clear visual imagery – something that helps young readers connect words to imagination. I even had a few students draw their favorite scenes, and every one of them was different. That’s the mark of a story that lets kids think for themselves.
