My Dream Job?

Photo by Aaron Kittredge on Pexels.com

This is a hard one. These days I don’t work because I have chosen to step back from the chaos that reigned supreme in my life to a much quieter one where I can concentrate on writing. I am currently working on two books and I take my time doing that.

However, if I had to choose, I would say working in the White House. This would have been a dream job. I think it would be exciting, adrenaline pumping and I would be right there where it all happens. The hub so to speak. Nothing would beat that but I think it would be very exhausting not to mention the stress factor which would probably be through the roof!

In my next lifetime I would like to do that! For now, I am happy where I’m at.

Characteristics of a Good Leader

Photo by Anna Tarazevich on Pexels.com

This question couldn’t have come at a better time. The 47th president is in the wings ready to take the helms of the highest office in the land as many of us grit our teeth and wait with bated breath to see the unfolding of what he has in store for America and the rest of the world.

The man is bold when it comes to certain issues BUT he is also impulsive, undisciplined, tradition-defying and doesn’t speak the truth. Shading the facts is his expertise and blowing hot air from both sides of his you know what is another area where he is well-versed in. Put this together and you’ve got what a good leader is NOT about!

That said, a good leader is a person who has integrity, courage, one who commands respect, who is able to communicate effectively and a leader who puts the will of the people front and center and the “me” concept somewhere in never never land!

If I Could I Would Un-Invent…

Photo by Kindel Media on Pexels.com

I would un-invent emojis. It was created in 1999 by Shigetaka Kurita to facilitate electronic communication but it has taken the world by storm and now there is one for any emotion you can think of sans the emotion of course. In a world where everything is digitalized and emotions are taking a backseat, this is the last thing we need.

Reaching out and showing any kind of compassion or emotion is done by sending emojis. Sad? Here’s a sad face emoji or a tear-drop one. Happy? Here’s a smiley face. In love? Here’s a heart emoji or kisses. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned hugs, the compassionate voice on the telephone or even the human touch?

In my opinion, we are becoming too digitalized and hence I would un-invent emojis if I could. Cute but some things need or deserve the human touch.

Feeling Loved?

Photo by Sam Lion on Pexels.com

People aside, I would say I feel loved when I see the look in Chachi, the cat’s eyes. When the little guy glances at me, I see it. What? I see the “look of love” and it is unmistakable. A soft purr, a wink and a softness signals his way of saying “I love you.” It is often followed by him rubbing his body up against my leg and hunching his back waiting to be picked up.

I say the little guy is a mommy’s boy. Just last night, he cuddled up close in bed. Then he turned his head sideways to look at me and when I planted a kiss on his soft furry cheek, the “purr” took on a life of its own and went to new heights. It went from soft to a high shrill purr. Happy? I suppose so. It takes very little to make him happy but his love is unconditional and the best part, there are no mind games and no guessing games either! What you see is what you get and I like that a lot. So yes, the little bundle of joy in a fur coat makes me feel loved and that is putting it mildly!

Reducing Clutter in My Life

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

There are many areas. First of all, relationship clutter needs to go. I find that it clouds my mind and I am caught up in a storm of my own making. All the ifs and buts tend to take over and more often than not I am not in a comfortable place. I’m working on that.

Clutter in the home is another thing I need to work on. Especially my closets. No matter how hard I try to clear up space, I don’t seem to be making headway in that direction. I used to be a clothes horse. However, these days I live in my sweats and dress up only when I need to so I don’t need much “stuff.” That’s another area I need to work on.

Lastly, I need to work on all the things living rent free in my head! It is the kind of clutter that takes up space and blurs the vision! Clarity is what I am seeking so those things need to go as well. Where to start? Hmm…..that is the problem. On my way but not quite there yet. It is a work in progress.

My Favorite Animal? (Archives)

This one is right down my alley and I can wax lyrical on this topic! It was and still is, Chachi, the cat! I love this little guy to bits.

I have a love affair with cats. Not all of them but the ones I have had and the one I have right one. I have learned and am learning that there is more to them than meets the eye. They are not dumb for one thing and their love is unconditional. Once you gain their trust, they are there for you fur coat and all!

Chachi, the cat, is an indoor cat and he is low-maintenance. Once he has his food and fresh water, he finds things to keep himself occupied. Keeping himself clean is of the highest priority and observing like a hawk is his other specialty. Hence his fascination with opening cupboards and doors! That aside, he is a confidante of sorts and just a hug and a kiss from my little buddy is enough to bring the sunshine back and for my heart to sing with joy.

Dogs are another thing altogether!

My Communications Online?

These days I keep it to a bare minimum. Gone are the days of being on everything and keeping track of the traffic coming in, I don’t need to do it anymore. My online presence is next to nothing.

I have one or two things I go to regularly and this here is one of them. I check my messages and that’s about it. As I have said before, I am turning into a recluse in more ways than one. If I could stay in my PJs all day I would! Since that is not possible, sweats are the next best thing. I used to be a fashion magazine editor and the media presence was huge but these days I’ve stepped back and spend more time in nature than anywhere else.

I’ve said enough without saying too much!

A Memorable Road Trip

Photo by Deva Darshan on Pexels.com

It was a long time ago. The family was in Asia visiting friends and as road trips go, this one was exciting. We were in Malaysia. I was six or seven at the time and we were packed in a car and heading somewhere not sure where now. It was late at night and it was raining and the road we were on was dark and winding with no lights to show the way. Some of us were sleeping at the time while dad kept his eyes on the road. The rule was, do not stop if you hit anything because it was a ploy used by bandits to rob or do something worse.

We were approaching a curve and suddenly dad swerved to avoid a log in the middle of the road. We screamed as he tried to gain control of the car and somehow managed to avoid hitting the tree stump and we made it out of there with nothing more than a scare and something to remember for all time. We could have lost our lives that night and even though that trip was memorable for other reasons, it is this one aspect that stands out in my mind.

A Snack?

Photo by Pramod Tiwari on Pexels.com

Does a slice of cheesecake count as a snack? Just a itsy bitsy tiny slice. Eating something healthy is at the top of my list but every now and then I tend to reach for something that contains calories, more than usual like cheesecake for instance.

I have a love affair going with this item. I’ve tried getting off this addiction if you can call it that and I succeed for a few days until I hear it (cheesecake) calling my name! Yes, folks, it has my number. The last time I had a slice was a couple of days ago but if I could, I would have it right now with a nice hot cup of coffee. I don’t know which is stronger, that scrumptious piece of cheesecake or my willpower but we will find out! I’m betting on yours truly but who knows because that creamy piece of nothingness has had the upper hand so far!

Crazy Business Idea?

Photo by Helena Lopes on Pexels.com

I think it would be based on the Uber concept of on-demand ride-hailing. Except mine would be based on hiring a friend for a day. You might say that exists already and it’s called an escort service. Only, this one would have “no benefits” if you know what I mean. It will be friendship in its purest form.

If you’re feeling lonely, pick up the phone and ask for a friend to show up. Be it for a walk, a talk, a listening session, playing games or whatever. When the time is up, they leave and you have had your dose of companionship with none of the hassles. It will be fast, moderately priced and made to order to suit your needs but here again no hanky panky involved.

We live in a society where “loneliness” reigns supreme. It goes unnoticed but it is there so such a crazy business idea might just work. Let’s call it:
