The Breakthrough!

Remember the guy I wrote about, the one who walks his dog but is tongue-tied and never says anything and just stares every time we see each other? I had given up on him because the last time I smiled, I mean really flashed my 100 watt smile and he froze completely! So I decided this guy is a lost cause.

I just did my second walk today. Why? Just felt like it and because I love windy days. So I bundled up and headed up the hill again. It was quiet like it was this morning. I walked up to the apple trees and turned around, still no one. Then I made a turnaround and went the other way. Just then a crow let out a loud squawk which startled me. I looked up at the trees but couldn’t see it. I heard a sound behind me and this big black pit bull came walking up to me and sniffed my hand. I don’t like dogs especially pit bulls. Anyway, I looked up and there he was all bundled up against the cold with a big smile plastered on his face.

Hmm….I told myself, BE CALM. He said, “Good morning!” That threw me for a loop. Had he been practicing?!! Anyway, I greeted him back with a smile. He said, ” I see you a lot around here.” I nodded and asked, “Do you live around here?”

He pointed to a big yellow house and said he lived over there. The way this village is set up is that most of the houses are clumped together. However, farmers who owned a big portion of the land before have their houses separated from the rest. These properties usually have the main house and several smaller houses which are rented out. So he was a Little Lord of the Manor.

We talked for a while about nothing much in particular. Just about the weather and he came in with, “It should be this way sometimes don’t you think?” I agreed and told him that I love this weather and he laughed. We waved and he went on his way. That was it!

I will see what the next time brings. If he will be as forthcoming as he was today I don’t know. Perhaps he has a twin who freezes every time a woman greets him. This guy today was friendly and ready to mingle!

Not An Ordinary Day

Yesterday started out normal enough. I woke up early and it was still dark outside. The rooftops were glistening white so it much have been a cold night. Nothing unusual because the day warms up as it goes along. Just an inkling of things to come. Spring is on the way but it is taking its time.

My morning was going to be full with errands to run and one important appointment to take care off. It was definitely going to be hectic but I had my afternoon free and the “fields” were waiting for my visit. It will be a beautiful day to go walking and to see what it had in store for me.

After breakfast and a shower later, I had to pick an outfit to wear. The errands are easy enough to do in jeans or in sweats but not for the important meeting. Dressed nicely for a change, I pulled my long hair into a chignon and held it in place with a clip and I was ready to go.

The sun was making a showing by now and a promise of a beautiful day was right in front of me. Feeling happy for a change I headed into town. I got the errands done in record time and then it was time to make it to his office. The secretary got up to show me to his office but he walked into the reception area, greeted me with a smile and led me to the inner sanctum. It was what he said next that threw me for a loop!

HIM: “I swear I’ve seen you before.”

ME: “Where?”

HIM: “I don’t know but I’ve seen you,” with a puzzled look on his face.

I decided to be flippant.

ME: I’m sure you saw me with my hair down?”

HIM: Maybe, but I’ve seen you before.”

The meeting started and five minutes in, he said again:

HIM: “I don’t know why but I feel like I know you. We know each other.”

Wow! I know I’ve never met him before. Was this a pick-up line of the weird kind? I’ve had weird before. I met this guy at the university way back when and during our first meeting he said, “We were husband and wife in a past life!” So this here was tame compared to the past life variety. Anyway, after the meeting I stood up and he came around the table, took my hand in his and said:

“It was nice meeting you but I swear I know you.”

His hand felt warmer than usual or was that just my imagination?!!

It was strange to say the least and I walked out of there wondering what just took place. Was destiny working its magic again or was it something else altogether. I will be bringing him some papers on Thursday and we’ll see how it goes. What’s that saying? Life happens when you’re not looking.

An ordinary day turned into a not so ordinary one.

Today is another day.

My Day Out

It was my “get out of jail” day, a self-imposed one, and it was nice for a change. The four walls were closing in and just going to the “fields” for a walk wasn’t going to do it this time around. I needed change.

I was looking forward to meeting up with a friend but the day started out with problems. The internet wasn’t working and so it was a mad dash to get in touch with the provider. Then I needed to get changed and it was time for something better than my normal wear of sweatpants and a ratty top to match. I decided on jeans and a nice shirt. I was still irritated by the internet thing but I made it to the cafe on time because “punctual” is my middle name. As usual, the girlfriend was late. “Suzy come lately” showed up 15 minutes late and breezed in with a smile on her face.

The cafe was crowded and the noise level was going up as the “8o” something group at the next table had downed a couple of cups of coffee by now and were high on something or other. Caffeine? I’m not sure but they were a raucous bunch.

We had our usual breakfast of eggs, bacon, a small salad and two cups of coffee each. We were loosening up as well and could see why the group next to us was having so much fun. Something in the coffee?

Anyway, we talked about a whole array of topics and as two single women, it came back to men in general. Nothing much had changed in her world and neither had it in mine.

Two hours in and I was ready for my quiet time again. She had her Tai Chi class next and I needed a fix. The bakery was right across from the cafe so I headed there after taking leave. I was hell-bent on having a really nice day and what better way to do it than with a hot cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake! In case you’re wondering, the fetish, the cheesecake fetish is still there but it is down to twice a week.

Have an amazing day.
