New-Fangled Technology!

Photo by Andrew Neel on Pexels.com

I have an aversion to anything that is new and requires brain power to figure it out! My life revolves around “no changes” but, unfortunately, the tech giants love sitting up in tech heaven and they want to outdo each other as to who’s the smartest in the land. In their rush to come up with new-fangled technology, they oversee those of us who want to cling to the old way of doing things.

Cell phones, smart tvs, computers, and cars with so much electronic know-how that they can practically drive themselves and leave you by the wayside watching them take off on their own! I enjoyed knowing how to start, stop, and a few other things that I deemed necessary. However, my current car beeps every time or flashes a message that this or that needs looking into. Not only that, backing up is a noisy affair. I understand that it is all done in the name of safety but do we need to “beep” like the world is coming to an end! I can do without that feature.

Computers are next on the radar. I have a love-hate relationship with them. I can and can’t do without them. I want it simple so that I can get in, do my thing, and get out without pulling my hair out. It has so many features that when a question pops up on the screen, I try to get rid of it! “I don’t want to hear it!” is my response. The co-pilot, whatever that is, wants to know if I need help. “I’m fine thank you!” is my answer. Do we need so many new-fangled features? We were doing just fine when all you had to do was turn it on, do your thing, and turn it off. Maybe, tone down the constant deluge of new features and new technology. Tech Gods, are you listening?

I’m a tech klutz as I’ve mentioned here many times before but I am learning to keep up with the changes. The problem. The minute I get something down pat, it goes and changes on me! A message to all Tech Gods, find something else to do! Take a vacation and let’s slow down the insane pace of working overtime to flood the market with “things” we don’t really need!

Tech Klutz (2)

The day started out like any other, peaceful and filled with promises of a nice new day. A blank slate waiting to be filled in. It was raining and the forecast called for rain all day long. It looked gloomy outside, dark and gray as a fall day sometimes looks like. Walking was out of the question so I decided to do what I normally would not attempt on my own.

I had a video of my book and decided to upload it. The folks at WordPress were really helpful and they had the patience of a saint! They needed that dealing with a tech klutz like yours truly! However, they kept their cool and tried walking me through the steps, one patient step at a time. All to no avail! The video didn’t want to cooperate and no matter what we did, we couldn’t get it uploaded. Frustrating? Absolutely. I spent half a day fooling with something I had no idea about, however, I did learn a few things along the way, don’t ask me what. I’ve forgotten already!

Anyway, we finally found out that the video was too large and get this, it needed to be compressed! What?!! I wanted to scream but they said, “No problem, we’ll try it another way.” After five different ways, still no success. There was no compressing anything! It (the video) refused to budge and preferred being the size it was!

I finally gave up and told them, I will get a tech person to come in and help me get this right. Later on today the person will show up and I hope he or she is a pro and can get the issue fixed without messing up my computer!

Kudos to the folks at WordPress. Thank you for your patience and your understanding. Did I drive you up the wall? I probably did but that’s because computers and tech klutzes don’t go together. We only tolerate each other!

Update:

Tech person did a great job and we found out that I needed to be a Premium member to get the video uploaded! So got that done and as you can see the video is up and running! 👍👍👍

This Came to Light

After welcoming Musk on stage on Sunday, Trump had this to say:

“And then he journeyed to Pennsylvania, where he spent like a month and a half campaigning for me in Pennsylvania.”

Trump didn’t stop there. He continued, “And he’s a popular guy. And he was very effective. And he knows those computers better than anybody.”

What computers?!!

“All those computers. Those vote counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide. So it was pretty good. It’s pretty good.”

Did Elon Musk help rig election results in the State of Pennsylvania and in the swing states?

Just a conspiracy theory or more than an element of truth to this one?

Rumor has it that Musk will get a West Wing office and he will be heading the newly-founded Department of Government Efficiency agency and its mission is to, “Make America Great Again” and “Make America strong for centuries.”

All fine and good but what about voter fraud? Did Trump admit to it and can money and computer expertise rig an election win?

The man in question is now reaching across the pond and meddling in European politics. World domination of the scary kind?

Passwords!

Passwords are a nightmare! There is one for everything you want to do on the internet and they are designed to keep your mind spinning. Remembering them is a whole different story altogether, one of nightmarish proportions which makes you want to scream to the high heavens if you are like me. I hate them but it is needed in today’s high-tech world of technology.

The stronger they are, the safer your data is according to the experts. However, coming up with one that is hacker-safe is not easy to do. The ones that are suggested are impossible to keep in mind and if you have two of those to your name, write it down or keep it under lock and key or you’ll be in no man’s land as far as logging in is concerned.

I googled passwords and this is what I came up with. “Strong passwords are of the utmost importance. They protect your electronic accounts and devices from unauthorized access, keeping your sensitive personal information safe.”

Fine and good but couldn’t the experts or the technology wizards come up with an easier system for passwords, one that required only a few letters and one or two symbols? No chance there, everything has to be ‘hard’ these days and the harder it is, they, the technology Gods who come up with most of this bulls**t as far as I am concerned are sitting in their hallowed offices and smiling from ear to ear, rubbing their hands together and patting themselves on their backs at just how tech savvy they are and people like you and me are pulling our hair out and are on the verge of going insane!!

I woke up this morning and instead of going for a walk and trudging around in mud as I usually do, I had the bright idea of setting up some new accounts. This required registering and setting up passwords as well. How difficult could it be? Well, I found out the hard way.

The instructions seemed easy enough at first glance but it went downhill from there. After a few minutes and several failed attempts, I couldn’t go any further. My passwords were either taken or they weren’t strong enough! I am no computer genius and I had the distinct feeling that the ‘passwords’ had it in for me! To make a long story short, my mind was saying, “STOP!” and my whole being rebelled and it was time to shut it down. I should have taken that walk, I would be calmer and more in control of ‘me’ but that was a far cry now. Fifteen excruciating and mind-boggling minutes and 4 cups of coffee later, I hadn’t achieved anything.

It was time to give up! I don’t like giving up so I googled some more. They don’t call me the “Google Queen” for nothing you know. After a few tries and not much luck, I found this!

Sorry, but your password must contain:

at least 8 characters

upper and lower case letter

a symbol or number

a hieroglyph

a haiku

a musical note

the feather of a hawk

and a drop of unicorn blood.

Hmm….can someone tell me where I can find the unicorn blood?!!

And that folks is my cue to get my shoes on, bundle up, leave the tech world behind, we just don’t jive together and to get out there and get some fresh air and to jump in mud to get some of the numbers, letters, squiggles and whatever else is running around wild in my mind right now!

HAVE AN AMAZING DAY
