Three Things

I could go with more but I’m going to stick to what I think makes a person unique.

Honesty

I place a lot of importance on honesty. It is hard to find because people tend to lie like there is no tomorrow! However, without honesty it is hard to trust someone and honesty makes for a relationship where respect for the person comes into play in the form of honesty. You are unique if honesty is your stronghold.

Integrity

Without integrity there are no moral principles. Someone who does whatever he/she wants without moral principles is someone I try to avoid at all costs. A person with integrity has a strong moral code and tries to do the right thing and it is indeed a unique quality to have and to treasure.

Humility

I find this quality extremely attractive more than looks or stature in life. These people are usually very modest and do not think they are better than others. There is a certain kindness that shines through and they don’t mind getting their hands dirty. This is definitely a unique quality and one that is extremely attractive and makes the person stand out even more.

Now for my second cup of coffee!

Tia’s Cheesecakes

Photo by Efnan Yılmaz on Pexels.com

It’s Sunday and I just woke up so coming up with something is a hard thing as I just had my first cup of coffee, it takes another cup to get going!

I went with the easiest thing and that is cheesecake. It is my nemesis as some of you already know since I have been posting about my addiction to this little bit of nothingness BUT it has a tremendous hold on me. I’ve been trying to beat the craving but it has been touch and go so far. Some days I do great and some days I indulge! Nothing too crazy but this addiction plays with my willpower and I hate it but love it at the same time!

A cheesecake named after me would be soft, creamy and melt in your mouth. Scrumptious would be another word for it. It would be plain but you can add whatever you want to it. Fruits, sprinkles, glazes or anything your heart desires, bottom line is that it tastes great all on its own with nothing added to glorify its taste. I want everyone to have the same effect it has on me and once you taste it there is no going back, you are done for hook, line, and sinker!

It’s Sunday, time for cheesecake? Just kidding. It’s a no cheesecake day today. Yes, it is smirking, the cheesecake I mean, but we shall see. I plan to win this battle one way or another!

What Makes Me Laugh?

Photo by Vinicius Wiesehofer on Pexels.com

I would say a lot of things. I look for laughter everyday and it is an effort that I take seriously. It has been said, “laughter is the best medicine,” and I totally agree. A day without laughter in my world is like a day without sunshine. It is tinged with grey and something seems to be sorely lacking.

Seeking laughter is in my daily to-do list. Stand-up comedy is a good source. I love Max Amini and his brand of comedy. He always has me laughing and if that gets boring, I watch comedies which definitely does the trick and puts a sunshiny spin on my mood. Then there is the abundant supply of jokes out there that tickles my funny bone and I have posted some of them here. Not always funny to some but it is to me and that matters.

My most important laughter maker and stress buster is Chachi, the cat, aka Little Einstein. Not a day goes by without laughter from that angle. He doesn’t even have to do anything, just standing there with his front paws crossed has me breaking out in laughter. There is just something about the little guy that brings smiles and laughter in my direction. Perhaps it is called love, the unconditional kind. Whatever it is, I have found my perpetual source of laughter and it is of the happiness kind. He instigates it sometimes unknowingly but it does the trick and most days I wear a smile on my face having indulged in rip-roaring laughter. Laughter is there to be harvested if you just pay attention and decide to give it a chance. Try it, it is a beautiful thing and it gives stress a boot out the door!

Big Dreams at Five?

Photo by jennifer jaser on Pexels.com

Seriously? I was a dreamer at five years of age as I think most young children are. School was looming in the horizon somewhere and I had nothing pressing on my agenda. It was time to be a young girl with her head in the clouds and her mind drumming up a fantasy world filled with little people, mushrooms hiding creatures that spoke and a world where the animals had a voice.

My biggest role at the time was that of a fairy complete with a magic wand! I walked around making stories up in my head and I had a relationship going but only with the ducks, rabbits and whatever else I came into contact with. Ambition was nowhere to be seen but I didn’t know it at the time but those forays into the fantasy world would become the stepping stone into the world of writing. I currently write children’s books and I give animals a voice so nothing much has changed in that respect!

Coming back to your question, five was a time for dreaming, playing with my thoughts which was just taking shape and other than that, it was a fantastic world of make-believe and unimaginable fun!

Strength

I think it is that you have everything within you to overcome what life throws your way. We have this insane power within that goes untapped most times because our first line of defense when adversity strikes is to howl at the moon and cry, “Why me?” Sure it gets the frustration out at the time or it is a way of letting out steam but in the long run, it is nothing compared to going within to bring that undefeatable power to the forefront, the one that can slay dragons if you let it.

There is tremendous power and strength within and I have tapped into this potential only to find that it is limitless. It is not easy I agree because human nature is weak and we are complainers more than anything else but if we can just understand that there is an untapped potential within and it can be used to overcome whatever it is that seems impossible at first but if given time and a single-minded focus, it is doable. I’ve fallen flat on my face many times over but these days, I don’t stay there. I go within to find the answers and the strength to move on. Standing still in one place is not an option, not for long anyway but moving on is. It may sound like mumbo jumbo to some but you were built to survive anything that life throws your way and you are equipped to do just that.

Technology and Job

Photo by Яна Матвиенко on Pexels.com

It doesn’t matter these days as I am taking time out to get a book published and another one is in the works. However, as a former Fashion Editor for a fashion magazine, I didn’t do the mundane task of putting the articles together. There were others who were computer savvy or rather tech savvy who did the job of getting the articles ready for publication. I just did the writing part but the rest was left to a team which was a good thing because I am a technology klutz or rather I hate anything new that creeps in while I am not looking and disrupts my day to day existence!

I’m sure technology has added to and made things easier in the publication world and the world of writing but I still dig in my heels when I see something new that needs me to brush up on computer technology. Just this morning, I wanted to log into WordPress and I got a white screen. Nothing more! I later found out it was called the Death Screen! I had to Google putting my frustration aside and it gave some tips on how to rectify that problem. One was to clear the Cache. What the hell was that?!! Anyway, I found out and cleared the Cache whatever that is and got it to work. Not a klutz after all but I hate new technology and I also understand that it is needed in today’s fast paced of ours.

Saying No!

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

Good question but the answer depends on what it is I am doing at the time. Saying “no” is sporadic and it doesn’t happen often. I am a goal-oriented person so I do not procrastinate. I usually take the bull by the horns and get things done.

However, last week was a different story altogether. Call it spring fever but I’ve been taking a very lazy attitude towards getting things done. The only thing that has been a regular is the “Daily Prompt.” Otherwise, writing has been put on the backburner. I received my revised manuscript from the publisher and instead of looking it up, it is still sitting on my desk! My mind doesn’t want to cooperate but it gets that way sometimes. Some days I have so many ideas and at other times I draw blanks. This is one of those times. I hope it changes because all I want to do right now is to sit out back and just listen to the birds chirping and the bees buzzing around! Spring fever at its best? Probably.

Coming back to your question, I do say “no” to things that would interfere with my goals but the good thing is, I know when to get off that “pot” and start moving again. It is a very temporary thing.

The Crystal Ball

Photo by Arthur Ogleznev on Pexels.com

I wish I had a crystal ball that did my bidding! It would show me the future with no questions asked like an obedient little puppy AND I can then go about changing the outcome!

It would be an amazing power to have at my fingertips but then again too much power in the wrong hands can be destructive and frightening if not used wisely. I have this fear factor that runs rampant at times and holds me hostage so a crystal ball might be the perfect anti-dote to keep it at bay or so I think. If I knew the future I would handle life better is my mantra but as we all know, life dictates and there is no handling it just learning how to do the best we can with what is handed down to us. I need to change my mantra.

Do I really want to know the future? YES and NO! However, a crystal ball showing the way would be a tremendous power to have, don’t you think?

Lovely Weather!

“Spring is the time of the year, when it is summer in the sun and winter in the shade.” Charles Dickens

This is exactly the kind of weather I love! I don’t like really hot weather so this is the perfect time of year to get out there and to enjoy walks without sweating up a storm and it is what we are having right now. Bright blue skies, cold in the shade but warm and sunny out in the open. A light coat is needed but nothing more. The birds are chirping in the trees and nature is coming alive in more ways than one. I can feel myself doing the same after a long and cold winter and my senses are revving up to go! It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful time of the year and there is more to come and I can’t wait till the trees bloom and everything has a mesmerizing effect. Just a matter of time now.

Dear old man winter,

“I think you need a vacation. You have worked really hard this year. It’s time to let spring start pulling some weight around here too.”

Sincerely,

Enough Winter (Unknown)

The Teacher

Photo by Ivan Samkov on Pexels.com

I remember her well. She was young and beautiful but more than that she had a great smile and a quiet way about her. I loved being in her class and somehow I had caught her attention. She would give me an encouraging nod and sometimes outright praise. This stoked my young ego and got me interested in English and in writing in particular. I made it my mission to excel in it!

I was in elementary school and the homework was to write a story, a fictional one. Mine was about a lion, that’s all I can remember but she held it up to the class and said, “This is a beautiful story.” It was the start of my writing career. The lady had no idea that she had set a fire ablaze. Then one day she said, “Tia, come on up and show them how it’s done.” Believe me I was oozing with pride as I walked to the front of the classroom and started writing on the board. Afterwards, she patted me on the head and said, “Well done!” My passion for writing had an outlet and I was on my way.

The English teacher didn’t know it at the time but her kind words, her motivation and her ability to bring forth the talent within me had set the wheels in motion. I became a whizz at writing. My first story made front cover and I was 16 at the time and since then I have written and published thousands of articles. I got my start in a classroom a long time ago from a person who nudged me gently in that direction and nurturing that potential she give me the tools to move ahead. Sometimes it takes just one person to see potential and to light that flame and she did.

Her impact on my writing career was tremendous so thank you.
