Hitler’s Return?

The alarm is raised. Germany’s far-right AfD party won a major parliamentary election victory in the state election of Saxony-Anhalt sending shockwaves through certain circles in Germany and throughout the world.

AfD is an anti-immigration party and they have been labeled as xenophobic and extremist by German intelligence. The far-right party is headed by co-leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupulla. Weidel comes across as a moderate wearing suits and pearls but don’t let that fool you, her rhetoric is anything but.

Here are some of their plans culled from different sources.

The party will launch a state-level deportation offensive with an established task force coordinating quicker deportations. Sound familiar?

If that’s not enough, they will remove war refugee status for Ukranians in Germany. Children of refugees will learn that their stay is temporary and they will be placed in separate classes in order to prevent “various stresses” placed on the OTHER children to stop them from being around different cultures.

They also want to limit Islamic expression, ban the call to prayer and, get this, they want a hand in how mosques are decorated.

This last part should get the alarm bells going. They want to establish a special police force. According to them the regular police are “overwhelmed” so, “We will therefore establish a voluntary citizen patrol as a third pillar of the local security architecture,” basically a vigilante group. Similar to ICE?

The party is gaining popularity capitalizing on fears about immigration and this is being used, successfully I might add, to further their own political gains.

AfD gained 43.8 % of the votes but it is not enough to govern alone. The “Brandmauer” or rather “firewall” is an unwritten rule where mainstream parties refuse to cooperate, work with, or form coalitions with the far-right. Will this isolationist tactic also known as “cordon sanitaire” keep or put AfD in its place?

Or are we seeing the return of Hitler and his policies in another guise and in another form?

Definitely! It is also hitting way below the belt but there are some great minds out there and I got a laugh out of these.

Update: This was his latest message to Iran filled with expletives meant to “bully” and bring it down to its knees. Malignant narcissism at its best? Here is the message:

“Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!” Time to invoke the 25th Amendment?

Trump’s power grab and brazen attempts at moving away from elected officials and centralizing power in a few selected hands is more than alarming but is it an attempt at hijacking government as is and establishing an authoritarian entity, one to his liking and that of co-president Elon Musk?

Some call it, “robbing the poor to enrich the wealthy.” Nobel laureate, Paul Krugman says, “Mr. Trump’s philosophy is simple: let the uber-rich do whatever they want, with little or no oversight. The result will be vast wealth for a select few while life grows nastier and shorter for the many.” Furthermore, it is all directed at “seeking retribution against his political opponents.” He further adds that the 47th president is postering like a monarch and “the real danger is letting his illusion of power become reality.”

Chaos! Chaos! Chaos!

Rule of Law? Out the window!

The Constitution? Who cares!

Democracy? Only if it panders to the “me” aspect.

Fascism? It is in the making!

Harold Meyerson observes in The American Prospect, “As to the wider world, if we ever sought to be that beacon on the hill, we’re now the bully on the hill. America, Trumpified.”

Trump 2.0 is front and center and it is an accelerated version causing destruction as he sweeps away everything standing in his way and moving towards being the de facto leader for life!

This unspectacular and seemingly nonchalant looking man kept the world captive for a long time. “He is widely regarded as a symbol of evil because of the crimes committed by the Nazi German regime under his leadership.” More than 11 million people were killed and the deaths were carried out in a very intentional manner. It was as if those lives lost did not matter at all. They were part of a purging process and it was all done in the name of ethnic cleansing or rather genocide. He is infamous not only for World War II and the Holocaust but also for the systematic persecution and the mass murder of Europe’s Jews.

Adolf Hitler was a slightly overweight man with piercing eyes and was evil to the core. “Hitler believed that Jews were destructive to the German ‘Aryan’ race, and did not have any place in Nazi Germany.” The Nazi idealogy is about degradation, extermination and dehumanizing certain groups of people based on their ethnicity and that is the OBJECTIVE. It is exactly why it is so dangerous.

This was and is the personification of evil. I met him, metaphorically, when as a young girl I started reading about Anne Frank and her struggles during Hitler’s reign. It was a reign of terror where families were wiped out and fear reigned supreme. Anne was a German-born Jewish girl and a victim of the Holocaust. She is one of the 1.5 million Jewish children who were murdered during the genocide. Anne became famous for keeping a diary of her experiences. She and her family went into hiding and stayed concealed at the back of a building on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdem, the Netherlands. Her writing kept me enthralled from start to finish and I lived her journey through her words. I read her story from the safe confines of my bedroom but every word transported me to where she had been and I knew that evil had a name and that it was Adolf Hitler.

What is the moral of Anne Frank?

It is “that all people have the right to live in freedom.”

Fast forward to today. We are living in a time where Nazi salutes, Nazi propaganda and Nazi rhetoric is viewed as nothing big. Those that believe in his ideology want the world to revert back to that time and place where “people” who did not belong in their concept of the “superior race” should be eradicated and or have their rights taken away.

If it will fly in a global society that is the question. We’ve come a long ways from one “evil” man controlling the narrative. We have a voice now and let’s use it to put evil in its place.
