A Snack?

Does a slice of cheesecake count as a snack? Just a itsy bitsy tiny slice. Eating something healthy is at the top of my list but every now and then I tend to reach for something that contains calories, more than usual like cheesecake for instance.

I have a love affair going with this item. I’ve tried getting off this addiction if you can call it that and I succeed for a few days until I hear it (cheesecake) calling my name! Yes, folks, it has my number. The last time I had a slice was a couple of days ago but if I could, I would have it right now with a nice hot cup of coffee. I don’t know which is stronger, that scrumptious piece of cheesecake or my willpower but we will find out! I’m betting on yours truly but who knows because that creamy piece of nothingness has had the upper hand so far!

Crazy Business Idea?

Photo by Helena Lopes on Pexels.com

I think it would be based on the Uber concept of on-demand ride-hailing. Except mine would be based on hiring a friend for a day. You might say that exists already and it’s called an escort service. Only, this one would have “no benefits” if you know what I mean. It will be friendship in its purest form.

If you’re feeling lonely, pick up the phone and ask for a friend to show up. Be it for a walk, a talk, a listening session, playing games or whatever. When the time is up, they leave and you have had your dose of companionship with none of the hassles. It will be fast, moderately priced and made to order to suit your needs but here again no hanky panky involved.

We live in a society where “loneliness” reigns supreme. It goes unnoticed but it is there so such a crazy business idea might just work. Let’s call it:

My Youth Attachment

It was books. I discovered that I could visit faraway lands, take fantastic journeys into the realm of fantasy and I could delve into romance without ever having to leave the comfort and safety of my bedroom!

It was a world that I revelled in. Love is not the word for it, it was something more. One day I discovered Anne Frank’s Diary and my safe world changed. I read it several times and I cried and I lived her journey with her. I learned that there is evil out there and I started writing. Writing about my feelings, my hopes and most of all my voice took on a power of its own.

I don’t read much these days perhaps because I write and I have something to say. Books showed me worlds I didn’t know existed, it showed me the inequalities that exists out there and it taught me that I too can change the world for the better.

My Mission?

My personal mission is to spread love not hate. More than that, my focus is to bring injustice of any kind to the forefront. My core focus has been on two things, racism and criminal injustice. I’ve been successful in both having published numerous articles on the topics but there is still much to be done.

My voice has grown quieter these days but that doesn’t mean I don’t see what’s happening and there are times when I really want to get back into the fray again but these days it is in a more subdued manner. It is not a 24/7 obsession anymore but speaking out only when keeping quiet means letting it exist whatever it is. Sometimes a small voice does carry weight and can boom like a megaphone.

I believe that it takes courage to speak out against injustice and racial inequalities. My goal is to continue speaking out against such atrocities.

My Thoughts on Living a Long Life

I hope I go before my hair falls out, the same for my teeth and before my bones give way!

I live a healthy life which means working out everyday, eating healthy except for my dives into cheesecake now and then but I’m working on that and I do everything necessary to live a good and healthy life. Add daily meditation and walks in nature and I’m on the right track. However, I don’t think I want to live to be a 100 or so because that means being a burden to someone. Age does take a toll and not only on the person but on those around you and so like I said at the beginning, I hope I go before that happens and I definitely don’t want to do the “Methuselah” bit.

What could I do differently?

Good question because it is one that I ask myself on a daily basis. I think I need to stop “people pleasing.” I tend to overextend myself so much so that I am left wanting and my needs and wants are not met. I have this motto, help first and take care of yourself later and that is not working.

This year I am a work in progress. Not that I didn’t do the same thing last year but I fell short. This year I am going to put “me” first and set some boundaries and work on my self-worth as well. It is not where it should be. That is it in a nutshell.

Future or the Past?

Photo by Arthur Ogleznev on Pexels.com

I think I do both. I think about the past a lot mostly about mistakes I’ve made and how not to repeat them again. They say if used wisely you learn from your past. However, we are prone to repeat those same mistakes if we are wired a certain way meaning we find comfort in those same things that caused us the problems in the first place so I do place a lot of effort and energy into finding out what they are and how to go about changing those behavior traits.

Thinking about the future is inevitable because I am an overthinker and as such I use the “what if” scenario a lot. Sometimes I wish I had a crystal ball to predict the future and since that is never going to happen, the next best thing is to think about it! This year, I am going to trust in the journey as I said in one of my articles and to go with the flow. Fingers crossed!

The Greatest Gift?

Photo by GlassesShop GS on Pexels.com

If I’m talking about a relationship, I would say it would be trust. It is sorely lacking where I am concerned. I know trust has to be earned and sometimes it takes years to build but it could also be destroyed in a matter of seconds as I learned in my life. I’ve been trying to regain it ever since but it is sorely lacking and therefore makes any relationship I step into a hard one to navigate and unfortunately for me the menfolk prove over and over again that I shouldn’t give my trust blindly.

Trust would be the number 1 gift someone could give me but I also know that it takes two to tango so I must also be willing to meet that person halfway and to give them a chance to prove their trustworthiness. Right now or for a long time I’ve had a lock around my heart because of this trust issue and so most of my relationships go down south before even taking off. Perhaps before I can receive that gift of trust, I need to make some changes as well. That’s a hard one for me.

My Education?

Wow, I think before I get through these daily prompts, my whole life will be out there on display!

Let’s see, I studied Journalism and later went into Education because journalism required that I finish articles or reports at a given time span and it was too much pressure for me and it took the fun out of writing. I love writing but I wanted to do it at my own pace so I backed out of doing it full-time.

I didn’t give up on writing altogether. I kept at it by writing freelance articles, writing for a fashion magazine, writing for a political website and published a book. When all is said and done, writing is still my first love only not the pressurized variety. These days I take it at my own pace and write about whatever I want and that I find brings out the best in me and my writing.
