Tech Klutz (2)

The day started out like any other, peaceful and filled with promises of a nice new day. A blank slate waiting to be filled in. It was raining and the forecast called for rain all day long. It looked gloomy outside, dark and gray as a fall day sometimes looks like. Walking was out of the question so I decided to do what I normally would not attempt on my own.

I had a video of my book and decided to upload it. The folks at WordPress were really helpful and they had the patience of a saint! They needed that dealing with a tech klutz like yours truly! However, they kept their cool and tried walking me through the steps, one patient step at a time. All to no avail! The video didn’t want to cooperate and no matter what we did, we couldn’t get it uploaded. Frustrating? Absolutely. I spent half a day fooling with something I had no idea about, however, I did learn a few things along the way, don’t ask me what. I’ve forgotten already!

Anyway, we finally found out that the video was too large and get this, it needed to be compressed! What?!! I wanted to scream but they said, “No problem, we’ll try it another way.” After five different ways, still no success. There was no compressing anything! It (the video) refused to budge and preferred being the size it was!

I finally gave up and told them, I will get a tech person to come in and help me get this right. Later on today the person will show up and I hope he or she is a pro and can get the issue fixed without messing up my computer!

Kudos to the folks at WordPress. Thank you for your patience and your understanding. Did I drive you up the wall? I probably did but that’s because computers and tech klutzes don’t go together. We only tolerate each other!

Update:

Tech person did a great job and we found out that I needed to be a Premium member to get the video uploaded! So got that done and as you can see the video is up and running! 👍👍👍

Principled

I don’t know if being principled is a good trait since it has caused unnecessary pain in times past because I refused to stray from what I thought was right and being rigid and principled sometimes means that you get the short end of the stick as well.

We live in a world where “principles” are not as important as they use to be. Bending the rules to suit your needs has become part and parcel of behavior in today’s society. However, I have held on steadfastly to my principles.

The good thing about being principled is that you are committed to integrity, honesty and you are responsible in your actions . There is a certain moral compass that enables you to come across as a trustworthy and reliable person. The bad thing? It can be a hindrance because people may view you as a person who has a stick so far up the you know what that there is no getting you to see their side of things. Been there, done that, and I continue to do that!

However, it is their opinion. I like being principled and there are certain things I will stand for and others absolutely not.

Spinster for life? Who knows only time will tell. I might be like that captain who went down with his ship bearing full responsibility for the vessel, only I will be holding onto my principles till the very end!

MY BOOK (Update)

My book has been out for about 3 weeks now and it has a 5-star global rating but reviews are slow coming in. It seems that writing the book is not the hardest part, it is getting it out there. I am also finding out that the title is just one of many others and it is going to take work to bring it to the forefront. According to some reviews, the book is seen as generally positive and it is described as a “wild ride that captures children’s imaginations.” A good thing? I hope so. According to the publisher, the eBook version will be out next week. Hmm…let’s see how it does.

“THE EXCELLENT ADVENTURES OF HONEY AND HUBIE”

It is a children’s book about a dog and a frog, two very unlikely characters, who go on an excellent adventure together. The book is filled with animals of all kinds and they SPEAK just like Chachi, the cat does. Believe it or not, I started this story when I was studying in the US and got around to finishing it two years ago! It was gathering dust all this time but now it is out and doing its rounds.

No clue how well it will do but that is not the important part. I had an idea and I brought it to fruition. The rest will take care of it yourself.

Embracing Silence

Human nature is such that when we think or perceive that a wrong has been done, “silence” one of the most powerful tools in our arsenal is overlooked and venting comes to the forefront. Sure, it feels better after a vent and rage session BUT did you achieve anything?

“He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words.” Elbert Hubbard

It’s like “throwing pearls before swine” and it translates into, “to offer something valuable to those who will not appreciate or understand its worth.” Herein likes the truth of the matter. If the person never appreciated you in the first place, no amount of anger, rage, or venting is going to make them change their mind. It boils down to, “You didn’t matter to them.” The truth hurts doesn’t it? Sure it does, but don’t expect them to see that hurt because they won’t. The thing is, they don’t care. YOU have to learn that not all responses, rejections, or insults deserve a response. Pick your battles carefully and to someone who didn’t see your worth in the first place, this is a losing one. It is time to close the door and to move on.

In times past, any wrongdoing was met with strong words, anger and even sadness but these days I “embrace silence” and I go within to find my strength and that is where my power resides.

Believe me, HEAR you will. You will not only hear but also see clearly all the unworthy things you put up with. How you gave credit to someone who didn’t deserve an iota of it and how you stood by and let them take your heart for a ride of the unsavory kind. I guess you can say I’ve matured because “letting go” of such individuals has become a matter of fact thing. I let my silence do the talking. However, when you do embrace silence, don’t expect that they’ll come running back. Accept it as water under the bridge because the wrongdoers know what they’re about and your silence is not going to change them.

There is no winning, just a conscious decision to let go and let it float away. There will be better days and better people on the way. The wrong ones will fade away. You just need to detach from the drama. Don’t let your emotions control you, open your mind and observe carefully. Embracing silence helps you to do just that. Here’s the thing, not everyone deserves access to your emotions.

Three Jobs

If I had to do it all over again and money didn’t matter, the three jobs I would consider doing or pursuing would be NOTHING, NOTHING and NOTHING!

Why would I even bother if money was not a issue. I would spend my days meditating, looking for new places to walk in and living a life of leisure. Stress would be out the window and so would all the creeps who come calling!

It would be boring but who cares! Life would be on an even keel and sipping on lemonade or coffee and looking at the sky to see if it changes any time soon would be a wonderful preoccupation!

LOL!

When one door closes and another door opens, you are probably in prison.

I had my patience tested, I’m negative.

When you ask me what I am doing today, and I say “nothing,” it does not mean I am free. It means I’m doing nothing.

I finally got eight hours of sleep. It took me three days, but whatever.

I hate when a couple argues in public, and I missed the beginning and don’t know whose side I’m on.

When someone asks what I did over the weekend, I squint and ask, “Why what did you hear?”

Don’t bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Spend 30 seconds in my head. That’ll freak you right out.

Exactly what I say!

Sometimes, someone unexpected comes into your life out of nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever. We call those people cops.

There are two friends out hunting and they have a hunting accident and one man is laying on the ground motionless. The other man calls the doctor.

Man: “Doctor we just had a hunting accident! I think my friend is dead!”

Doc: “Well are you sure he is dead?”

Man: “Well, no.”

Doc: “Make sure he is dead first.”

With that the man puts down the phone for a moment, and the doctor hears a loud BANG before he comes back.

Man: “Ok, now what?”

Cultural Heritage?

I’m not too big into cultural heritage. I consider myself a global citizen and as such I embrace all cultures and have made it a point to learn all there is to learn about other cultures.

As you know I spent a lot of my time in Asia and it was there that I learned to embrace the food culture. It was amazing! Each country had a different cuisine and I loved almost all of them. However, learning about what Asian culture entailed took broader thinking. There were things I liked and there were things I didn’t. I loved the friendliness of the people but some customs took getting used to. Especially the ghost month. Everything was based on the spirit world and much was done to welcome them back to earth! I found this to be spooky.

Tennessee is different. It takes getting used to. They have a certain way of talking but not as bad as Kentucky! I love the food, the landscape and the people. I have a love for country music and since Nashville was not too faraway, I loved being there. Tennesseans are usually kind and friendly and throw in good home cooking and it is a culture you can easily embrace.

European cultural heritage is diverse and like any other culture, it is steeped in folklore, art, food, and people. There are certain customs that take getting used to. One is that they are conservatives and breaking into the community is hard to do. However, the cultural heritage is captivating and there is much to learn here as I am finding out.

What aspects of my cultural heritage am I most proud of or interested in? Like I said, I don’t belong to just one, I am a mish-mash of different parts. Parts that I learned about from having experienced different aspects of the world and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I think I did that pretty well without disclosing too much!

The Breakthrough!

Remember the guy I wrote about, the one who walks his dog but is tongue-tied and never says anything and just stares every time we see each other? I had given up on him because the last time I smiled, I mean really flashed my 100 watt smile and he froze completely! So I decided this guy is a lost cause.

I just did my second walk today. Why? Just felt like it and because I love windy days. So I bundled up and headed up the hill again. It was quiet like it was this morning. I walked up to the apple trees and turned around, still no one. Then I made a turnaround and went the other way. Just then a crow let out a loud squawk which startled me. I looked up at the trees but couldn’t see it. I heard a sound behind me and this big black pit bull came walking up to me and sniffed my hand. I don’t like dogs especially pit bulls. Anyway, I looked up and there he was all bundled up against the cold with a big smile plastered on his face.

Hmm….I told myself, BE CALM. He said, “Good morning!” That threw me for a loop. Had he been practicing?!! Anyway, I greeted him back with a smile. He said, ” I see you a lot around here.” I nodded and asked, “Do you live around here?”

He pointed to a big yellow house and said he lived over there. The way this village is set up is that most of the houses are clumped together. However, farmers who owned a big portion of the land before have their houses separated from the rest. These properties usually have the main house and several smaller houses which are rented out. So he was a Little Lord of the Manor.

We talked for a while about nothing much in particular. Just about the weather and he came in with, “It should be this way sometimes don’t you think?” I agreed and told him that I love this weather and he laughed. We waved and he went on his way. That was it!

I will see what the next time brings. If he will be as forthcoming as he was today I don’t know. Perhaps he has a twin who freezes every time a woman greets him. This guy today was friendly and ready to mingle!
